Q: What is Polypropylene Glycol?

A: Polypropylene glycol is a polymer with molecular formula H(C3H6O)nOH, molecular weight 400~2000, colorless to light yellow viscous liquid. Not volatile and non-corrosive.

Q: What is Polypropylene Glycol used for?

  • It can be used for defoamers and solvent for vegetable oils, waxes and resins. Used in eucalyptus sugar, beverages, candies, yeast, etc.
  • Used in the production of yeast, monosodium glutamate, etc. The defoaming efficiency is several times to dozens of times that of edible oil.
  • PPG series are soluble in toluene, ethanol, trichlorethylene and other organic solvents, and PPG200, 400, 600 are soluble in water, with lubricating, solubilizing, defoaming and antistatic properties. PPG-200 can be used as a dispersant for pigments.
  • In cosmetics, PPG400~2000 is used as emollient, softener and lubricant.
  • Used as antifoaming agent in paint and hydraulic oil, antifoaming agent in synthetic rubber and latex processing, refrigerant and coolant for heat transfer fluid, viscosity improver.
  • Used as an intermediate in esterification, etherification and polycondensation reactions.
  • Used as a release agent, solubilizer, additive for synthetic oils, additive for water-soluble cutting fluids, roller oils, hydraulic oils, high-temperature lubricants, internal and external lubricants for rubber.
  • PPG-2000~8000 has excellent lubricating, anti-foaming, heat-resistant and freezing-resistant properties;
  • PPG-3000~8000 is mainly used as a component of combined polyether to produce polyurethane foam;
  • PPG-3000~8000 can be used directly or after esterification to produce plasticizers and lubricants;

         And this product can also be used as a base material for daily chemicals, medicines, and oils.

Q: How do you store Polypropylene Glycol?

A: It should be packed in clean, dry, sealed, leak-free iron drums. Store away from sunlight, rain, and keep it away from fire sources. Do not come into direct contact with air because of its hygroscopicity. Avoid open flames and long-term heating in the air, especially thermal insulation materials and clothing infiltrated with polyether polyols, which tend to catch fire naturally, so it  need paid more attention. The product is not subject to the rules for the storage of flammable liquids, but should avoid entry into ground or surface water as it is not readily biodegradable. When overflowing, cover it with sawdust, yellow sand, cloth and other permeable substances, then shovel it to the waste recycling place and move it out of the workplace, and then carry out sewage treatment. In case of fire, extinguish fire with foam, dry chemical, dry ice, water, etc.
