General Information

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Methyl Methacrylate used for?

A: Methyl methacrylate is an organic compound, a colorless liquid, slightly soluble in water, soluble in most organic solvents such as ethanol. Mainly used as a monomer for plexiglass, and also used in the manufacture of other resins, plastics, coatings, adhesives, lubricants, sizing agents for wood and cork, paper polishes, etc. On October 27, 2017, according to the preliminary collation of the list of carcinogens released by the International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health Organization, methyl methacrylate belongs to the third category of carcinogens.

Q: The emergency measures?

Skin contact: Take off contaminated clothing immediately, wash the contact point with plenty of running water and soapsuds.

Eye contact: Immediately lift the eyelids and rinse thoroughly and persistently with plenty of running water or normal saline. Seek medical attention.

Inhalation: Get out of the scene and into the fresh air. Keep airway open. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. If anyone has stopped breathing, give mouth to mouth resuscitation.  Seek medical attention.

Ingestion: If swallowed by mistake, drink plenty of warm water, induce vomiting and seek medical attention.

Q: Operation precautions?

A: Airtight operation, pay attention to ventilation. The operators must have special training and strictly abide by the operating procedures. It is recommended that operators wear direct gas masks (half masks), chemical safety protective glasses, anti-static overalls, and rubber oil-resistant gloves. Keep far away from fire and heat sources, and smoking is strictly prohibited in the workplace. Explosion-proof ventilation systems and equipment should be used. Prevent vapors from escaping into workplace air. Avoid contact with oxidants, acids, alkalis and halogens. Load and unload lightly when handling to prevent damage to packaging and containers. Equipped with corresponding types and quantities of fire-fighting equipment and leakage emergency treatment equipment. Empty containers may be harmful residues.

Q: Storage precautions?

A: Usually the product is added with a polymerization inhibitor. Keep it in a cool, ventilated warehouse. Keep it away from fire and heat sources and also keep it away from light. Storage temperature should not exceed 30°C. The packaging is required to be tightly sealed and not in contact with air. It should be stored separately from oxidants, amines, alkalis and halogens, and should not be mixed. It should not be stored in large quantities or stored for a long time. Explosion-proof lighting and ventilation facilities should be adopted. Forbid the use of mechanical equipment and tools that are prone to sparks. The storage area should be equipped with leakage emergency treatment equipment and suitable containment materials.
